"View from my Window"
Elements/Principles:  Value & Atmospheric Perspective
Art Lead: Marci Knutsen
Parent Helpers: Laurie Conrad, Clea Morehart, Robin Suchting, Vivian Tsang

Referencing Leonardo da Vinci's "Mona Lisa", students learned the many ways items visually change as they move farther away from us.  Students created their own landscapes titled "View from my Window" by drawing a series of rolling hills on canvas and painting them with a base acrylic color, adding white to tint the color as the hills move farther away and black to shade the closest hill.  Nice work everyone!

"Native Americans, a Portrait in Clay"
Elements/Principles:  Texture
Art Lead: Marci Knutsen
Parent Helpers: Laurie Conrad, Clea Morehart, Robin Suchting, Vivian Tsang

Students reviewed work by modern day, American artist, Kirby Sattler.  His current images evolve from the history, ceremony, mythology, and spirituality of the Native American.  Sattler has developed his painting into a distinctive style of realism which includes many beautiful examples of texture.  The students identified examples of various textures they found in the classroom and then worked to represent at least three unique textures in their sculpted portraits.  Fabulous!
